Antara Angin & Ombak Rindu.

1. Dalam filem Ombak Rindu, Aku tak biasa tengok Lisa Surihani berlakon watak macam tu. Sebab sepanjang kami saling mengenali, Lisa Surihani tak macam tu.

2. Aku dah tanya kat isteri aku untuk berkahwin lagi. Aku minta untuk berkahwin denga Lisa Surihani sahaja. Atas sebab-sebab tertentu, permintaan aku telah ditolak.

3. Dalam kes no. 2 diatas. Aku rasa, Yusry KRU sangat bernasib baik, kalau isteri aku setuju aku kahwin dengan Lis (panggilan manja aku kepada Lisa Surihani), mesti lah yusry tak dapat kahwin denga Lis.

4. Dalam kes No.2 diatas juga, aku tak berminat untuk kahwin lagi selain daripada Lis. So korang tak payah lah menyamar atau guna photo Lis kat Facebook untuk tarik perhatian aku. Aku boleh 3G atau Skype kat Lis terus. tapi sekarang tidak lagi.. aku harap Lis bahagia disamping Yusry yang tercinta (paksa-rela).

5. Aku tak berapa kenal Yusry KRU walaupun tahu lagu fiona dari 4u2c. tapi Yusry mesti dapat tahu tentang keperibadian aku melalui Lis. Mesti lah Lis akan meletakkan syarat kepada Yusry tentang lelaki macam mana yang Lis minat. Aku harap Yusry dapat buat sedikit perubahan demi Lis, dengan menjadikan aku sebagai role model.

6. Ramai yang kawan-kawan aku pun minat dengan Lis juga. aku baca status diorang kat FB.. aku senyum jer. Lantak lah korang!

7. Aku tahu kalau korang baca entry ni mesti gelak-gelak cakap aku berangan bukan-bukan. Walaupun sebenarnya entry ini serius... well, hanya Johari yang kenal Manikam.

8. Kepada Isteri aku dan Yusry.. jangan risau.. jangan lah rasa tergugat. sebab style aku ni, chill je. aku takkan rampas Lis daripada Yusry. Aku tetap hormat pendirian isteri aku dengan tak benarkan aku berkahwin dengan Lis. seterusnya, aku dapat melupakan Lis.

9. Semoga kita dapat mengekalkan hubungan kita sesama makhluk ciptaan Allah. Yang lebih utama kita sama-sama cintakan Allah yang maha Esa!

Apabila anda gembira tepuk tangan! kenapa? sebab Superman Is Dead best!

Sekitar peristiwa "sebelum, semasa dan selepas" SID berlangsung :

1. Aku sampai ke Ovo Bistro awal sangat.. lepas tu bosan sorang-sorang. Nasib baik jumpa Ebi JCL selepas 15 minit di Ovo Bistro, selamat aku dari bosan.

2. Restoran Kalifah, restoran pilihan pengunjung pada hari tersebut. Walaupun restoran ini bernama kalifah tapi restoran ini tidak mempunyai surau. Memang lah takde surau sebab ejaan yang sepatutnya ialah "Restoran Khalifah".

3. Jumpa Habib One Cafe sebagai penjaga pintu. Aku tak pasti sama ada beliau bekerja di Ovo Bistro atau kedatangan beliau adalah disebabkan penyakit tempat kerja lama yang terbawa-bawa sehingga ke Ovo Bistro.

4. Ada "outsider" secara sengaja pijak kaki aku dengan niat buat aku marah la kononnya. alamak, malas layan.. aku senyum jer. Selang 30 minit, aku nampak dia dah terbaring kat lantai. Ngantuk kot.. =_="

5. Jumpa Emy Skunkfix di Ovo Bistro! ini sangat rare! hahahahaaha...

6. Aku bawa kamera DSLR Camera tapi tak pandai guna.

7. Aku, Ebi, Tobek dan kawan-kawan tumpang solat maghrib di Car Wash bersama-sama pekerja warga Indonesia di situ. Tak perlu slogan 1Malaysia atau 1 Nusa, 1 Bangsa. Ya, solat menyatukan umat tanpa sempadan.

8. Aku bertegur sapa dengan Fara. Hik hik... yang tahu tu tahu la... Ok ni kena buka thread baru.

9. Jumpa kawan-kawan lama dari Johor Bahru. :-)

Sama ada korang belum kerja, tengah cuti sakit, ponteng kerja atau sebagainya.. aku rasa paling patut istilah ini diberikan kepada orang yang takde kerja dalam konteks bersosial di facebook.

Ini adalah satu taktik paling berkesan untuk mencuri perhatian di facebook. Cubalah..

1. Pergi kat profil yang dikehendaki kalau boleh pilih lah public figure power sikit. Apa celop* pilih Sanchez (bukan nama sebenar)? Pilih "apis c fotin" takpe, paling teruk dia mengadu kat sini jer..
2. Pergi ke profile photo.
3. Tag diri sendiri disitu sebeberapa banyak yang boleh..
4. Setel..
5. Rakan anda mesti cakap (dalam hati), "mamat ni cool lah!". Sebab rakan anda tengok kat page anda tertera, " "anda was tagged in Arwah Michael Jackson's photo."
6. Jangan risau... biasanya "orang kenamaan" yang anda pilih tu tak sampai hati nak remove nama anda. Mengikut contoh di atas... mustahil Arwah Michael Jackson hidup balik untuk remove anda.
7. Cuma tunggu lah dalam masa 3 hari, mungkin anda akan di-un-friend (kalau beliau hidup lagi).
8. Selamat beramal!

Teori Mimpi (Part 2)

Aku tahu memang agak lama benda ni.. Sudah berlalu beberapa tahun, baru keluar part 2. Bagi yang biasa follow movie yang bersambung-sambung macam Harry Potter, LOTR, Home Alone, Lion King, dan sebagainya. Mereka akan faham kenapa lambat.. hahaha... Ok itu bagi filem power! Bagi blogger yang power macam aku (lantikan sendiri), aku memang sengaja pilih musim yang sesuai untuk menghasilkan sesuatu karya walaupun ayat "copy-paste".

Bagi yang tak paham... aku tahu masalah korang tak follow aku disebabkan dulu rumah korang takde internet. So sebagai blogger merangkap selebriti terkenal, aku maafkan korang. Korang masih layak jadi fan aku.

Kepada persatuan blogger, sorry lah aku tolak pelawaan jadi presiden korang. Aku rasa korang tu macam budak-budak. Semua benda nak ada establishment. semua benda nak di-NGO-kan. Jangan tukar nama korang kat facebok boleh tak?

Ok.. ini permintaan yang sungguh tidak punk rock.. aku tahu, suka hati korang lah nak buat apa. Tapi aku ni ada penyakit "kenal muka tak ingat nama". Kawan aku ada penyakit yang terbalik pula, iaitu "ingat nama tapi tak ingat rupa". Ok, sambung dekat penyakit aku tadi. Doktor pakar cakap kat aku, penyakit aku boleh merebak ke satu tahap jadi "tak kenal muka, tak ingat nama".

Kau bayangkan lah kalau hari ini aku kenal kau kononnya bernama amet (bukan Amet SNB) dan tahu muka kau tak hensem (wekkkk!!!) seperti amet (bukan Amet SNB). Esok, lusa... aku dah tak kenal kau. macam mana? kan rugi tu.. telah memutuskan silaturahim sesama umat.

Semalam nama kau begini, "helmi jafaar" (bukan emy skunkfix). Hari ini nama kau begini, "xemyx". Bila kau update status, aku tak click "like" sebab aku tak kenal. Rupanya kita kawan. Lepas tu kau terguris hati sebab aku tak click "like".. kan tak seronok.

Ini sekarang nama kat FB dah makin pelik dah. setan ada, darah setan ada, fouzy gugus, mikaela wanida, chaos malaysia sdn bhd, apis c fotin (yang ni ok!) dan lain-lain.

END cancelled few days before the show starts.
Blood on Wedding Dress cancelled few hours before the show starts.
To make it worse as it is, Yuen was also unable to make it due to some family affair.

Bummer.

Monkeys having a big problem now.
Fear and loathing in Bangsar (OK tomorrow in Tampin)
But quoting from one of the band that’s gonna play,

“Come on and get it. Don’t you wanna get it, get itt”

Pfft.
Let’s give it a fucking go then.

We were (wee bit) late due to traffic jams (ED: It’s a lie, he was making the tags last minute, AGAIN!) and the show started at 4.30 p.m as we can’t withstand the heavy pressure from the space owner. Carbon 4Teen took the stage first. These punk rock kids seems too busy to be bothered and butt hurt by my previous review of their release and pulled out an energetic performance. I bet they’re too busy to care in a bonafide punk rock fashion.

Artificial hairy punks, Pusher was next. Unlike the rest of the bands, this is the second time they played in Tampin. Their increasingly fat drummer manage to fall down and broke the chairs during their set (haha) but you know they won’t let you down. The only thing that is worth a complain for that particular day is their vocalist’s voice, which made me wonder if they accidentally change the vocalist to someone else (a screamo vocalist, maybe?). Lining up after that was the demo birthday boys, Gymnastic Skull Whistling waking Tampin up with their relentless power violence. In conjunction with this release party of their first demo, they pull out tight performances that we are sure won’t be letting the sales of Cactus Records down.

Just akin a commercial break, them subversive reggae boys (that didn’t sing about Jah, collie buddz or panjis) The Garrison was next and they turn the violent atmosphere to a relaxed and calm one. As they’re currently in the studios to record their full EP, I know many of you can’t wait to get your hands on it after witnessing how magical they are inducing the moshing crowd under their spell into a submissive intoxicated one.

Now there are only two bands left and everybody knows now it’s too late to be afraid. Post-punk darlings Killeur Calculateur took over the stage with a tremendous set. The crowd didn’t want them to stop! I know I might sound exaggerating but videos are here, just take a look at it. I bet they might be surprised too knowing how much Tampin loved them. And to end the show with a sweet note, we unleashed the fearsome four, our final weapon, Sarjan Hassan to conquer them all. They manage to play their regular set lists with an addition of two covers from Slayer and Motorhead as a bonus. Well, Man was a little more chatty than usual but disappoint, they did not.

And then it’s dark, it was late but everybody just can’t stop the madness.

Thankfully it’s Saturday. And we’re in love.

The show managed to gather RM800.00, which is a slight relief to us (cause we’re expecting to face loss and CEO cum Finance Manager YKL is not there). RM650 goes to Seventh Heaven, RM100 was divided by four and goes to 4 bands (RM25 each), 50 goes to cover misc costs i.e. tags, mineral water and cable ties. I guess this is transparent enough, yes?

Thanks Batu Pahat, Keningau, Kota Kinabalu, Ranau and Tampin for the memories so far.

Next we shall see ya; Temerloh? Sungai Petani? Taiping? Penang?

Split EP ini menggabungkan dua buah band di bawah Red Ink Entertainment dan Nervhous Records yang begitu aktif dalam sirkit muzik bebas, Carbon 4’ Teen dan T.I.M. Trek pertama Carbon 4’ Teen, “Envious” lebih mengarah kepada pop punk dari pengaruh-pengaruh yang sering disebut-sebut mereka seperti NOFX, Rufio, Lag Wagon dan Rx Bandits dengan vocal clean Apis. Trek keduanya rancak, dan ia sebenarnya lagu berbahasa melayu yang baik tulisannya dan jika mereka bereksperimen dengan lebih banyak lagu berbahasa melayu, maka ia lebih menyerlahkan penampilan Carbon 4’ Teen. Ia Nampak jelas pada trek keempat “The Betrayal Song” (Lagu melayu sebenarnya, jangan tertipu), sebuah lagu yang pendek tetapi padat dengan tema kecurangan dan pengkhianatan. Pertama kali saya diperkenalkan dengan band T.I.M ialah melalui kompilasi Senandung Pawer Kord membawa cover Sheila Majid iaitu “DIA” dengan baik sekali. Gaya ini dibawakan sekali lagi melalui trek berbahasa melayu, “Lesu”. Saya tak pasti jika ianya juga sebuah cover tetapi melodi gitarnya baik, dengan penggunaan lirik dan pembawaan vocal yang memang ada gaya-gaya pop melayu 1980’an. Trek “Sparks from up high is the way to go” ialah sebuah lagu punk rock yang rancak dengan breakdown metalcore di hujung-hujung lagu secara tiba-tiba. Okay, sekurang-kurangnya mereka tidak mengambil terlalu serius akan pembawaan mereka dan agak ‘fun’ sebenarnya. “Bertaut Berpaut” sekali lagi sebuah lagu melayu yang baik karangannya dari T.I.M. dengan line gitarnya pasti mengingatkan lagu-lagu pop punk yang klasik. Cuma rakaman T.I.M. kurang memuaskan, Nampak seperti rakaman sendiri di rumah. Ada bahagian dramnya menggunakan Drum Machine yang lebih baik jika dimainkan oleh pemain dram sebenar. Rakaman Carbon 4’ Teen bagaimanapun kena dengan gaya punkrock-nya, walaupun adakalanya saya rasa muzik pop punk seperti Carbon 4’ Teen menuntut teknik rakaman yang lebih bersih. NAZRI AHMADEUS

THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE REVIEW

Death to the reviewer

Being a music reviewer (especially here in Malaysia) is foremost a dangerous job. Every word that comes out to describe a certain song/band/release/record can determine the life and death of a reviewer. A sincere bad review can simply be mistaken and would certainly invite abhorrence... or maybe death threats at the reviewers front door. A sincere good review would then get the reviewer accused of being bias and also charged with an offense of cronyism and nepotism. It's either you dare take the risk and just speak your fucking hearts out, or just play it safe and pretend everything is ok.

I've been reading through a partial of local zines nowadays and been browsing around the internet. Comparing this to that. And what i could detect is somehow the fear of the truth itself within us. Yes, our scene is getting smaller by the day. Critical observation/opinion is forbidden and highly considered a sin, cause we fear that we might loose support of each other.

It doesn't matter how awkward we feel towards anything, we just have to shut up and pretend everything is ok. That's the so call "positive" support we give. That is how we understand what 'support' means. 'Supporting the local scene' which also means that we keep one eye closed, praise good and keep it to ourselves whenever we feel unease with something. We don't want anybody to get offended cause we think that might lead to some friends getting hurt. Punks have feelings too i guess. So let it be and let righteous cover up everything.

On top of that, we don't really realize on how thats the same way the "system" works and most of us are drawn to it without realizing. The irony. On how major labels/distributor pay their chunk of money to newspapers/magazines/radio to do star reviews as well as promoting some shitty release that's not worth of buying. Extra bling promotion. And that is how some crappy artist/band gets to hit their sales to multi-platinum or maybe gold. That is how quantity overcomes the quality.

Can't we see things the other way around?

On how critical discussions could help out a person/band/record to improve way much better in the future. Conflicts is the soul of punk itself. It is somehow a medium for people to analyze their flaws, be self-empowered and progress to another state of mind. There are times where we get self-centered with ourselves, too much of what we like and too much of being pampered in our cluster, we forget that the world is bigger than it is. We absolutely need a third opinion. A fresh new opinion that goes beyond what we think of ourselves. And a sincere opinion is the best opinion a good friend could offer.

The best 'In-your-face' review so far i remember was mostly where Joe Kidd did demo-tape reviews on the 'Blasting Concept' page in The Sun newspaper. If your demo gets good review, your ass gets inflated immediately, cause you certainly know that the newspaper readers are nation wide. But if your band gets slaughtered for a crappy demo, you'll be hating Joe the rest of your life. I did knew some really talented friends in this band who did got slaughtered by Joe for being too much of a grungy Nirvana stereotype. They still hold grudge for the review and hatred got too much in to themselves. What happen to the band now? They broke up years afterward. Well, one of the guys did pursuit to study more about sound engineering while the others got bitter and do think that the scene is only for ass-wipe kids. If only they took the review as a turning point for them, i am pretty sure that they could improvise a lot and gone quite far.

Be it good or be it bad. A review is just a review. It is built on the grey area of subjective with no black and white. The measurement on how good a song/band/release lies within the ears of the reviewer. You might get flowering good comments from one reviewer, but that doesn't mean other reviewers thinks a like. He/she might have to vomit at the end of their listening. This shows how hard it is to produce something creative to please every ear.

In addition to, I'd always be glad to read a review that does assessment of the inlay or cover of a release. Why? Because firstly, whenever you buy a record/cd/cassete it surely comes with a cover(unless you download mp3's). It has always been the essential of any music release. It doesn't matter how you package it, the inlay or the cover speaks for the band on how creative they would visualize their music produced. Plus the inlay narrates information about the whole album, with images or lyrics. Imagine how a poor cover could be wrongly intepret. A hardcore evergreen R&B Siti Nurhaliza fan would definitely puke to hold her latest CD that has only the image of a rotten bloody goat skull eaten by maggots on the cover. For some people artwork covers may just be aesthetic, but do remember on how powerful the art in punk rock could give impact on society. Sometimes it speaks more than the music itself. There's a reason for wasting a sum of money to get your cover & inlay printed nice cause you might be surprised maybe one day your CD cover artwork will be on some t-shirts sold at Pasar Malam (flee market).

Form a band, make a zillion of songs well armed with mindfucked riffings and impossible technical parts. If it's good shit, it will always dare the listeners to enjoy swallowing that shit. But if it's bad shit, it will remain smelly untouched. I face the same shit from year to year. Thanks to my loving foul-mouth friends, me and the band do realize certain things that we could repair and rework in order not to be in living in our own band ego. There's always shit we overlooked and there's always room for improvement. We sent our cd for reviewing and did get pleasant good reviews from Maximum Rock&Roll, but at the same time Razorcake gave us an average. Contradiction. So, should we cry and blame the shit out of the Razorcake reviewer for not understanding what we tried to do? That would be pathethic. Well, we did realize we were overdoing some shit and could've done better here and there. It's a never ending learning process day to day.

Whatever i wrote above is not to scare people from getting their stuffs reviewed in zines. Substantially, DO SEND whatever you have produce to get reviewed. It's a way to share and communicate with people. Do not really mind on how bad & good the review would turn out, because at the end of the day there is never an exact answer to what is good or bad to anybody. Getting your stuff reviewed gets you to know that the world runs around a diversity of opinions. Sometimes its a way to know more about ourselves from different angles. Its a best way to know that your existence does mean something to others. Unless you're too narcissistic to be in a society. Or you are pretty sure that the 20 copies of CDr or 100 copies cassetes or 500 copies of CDs made are to be only circulated within your own secret society.

Movers&Shakers

In order to form a collective to start Shock&Awe! at first, it took us almost a year of observation, searching for those who dare to go all gonzo on any shit given. There was no point if it was done by only the both of us, as the zine would then turn out to be another personal and self-obssesed scripture. We had to get writers with a conflict of thoughts to make sure the direction goes in diverse. And also getting a good music reviewer was like hunting down a motherless beast that would absolutely bite you back no matter what you feed it. We survived reading a couple issues of Dead Pigs zine and it totally ripped our hearts out on how blatant and sincere they were in coming up with top-notch writings. They mean shit of whatever they write as well as how they justify it. We do trust both of these dawgs as they have the avid ear of listening to a wide range of music genres while not being influence by any party and more over they're not even attached in a band. I may sound exaggerating but that's the truth as the collective revolves around never ending critical arguments and are aware that being bias is as the same as putting a bullet into our own heads.

That is why we take our hands off the music review/interview section and leave it to the foul-mouth dawgs, Hatta & Ci Chan to take full charge of it. Yes, all of us are friends, yet we still spit and do piss on each other whenever we feel something is wrong or right. We do trust these dawgs also to initiate and differentiate the good shit and the bad shit. I really don't understand how it works, but if some shit is really goood, no matter how it sounds like and no matter what genre of music its from, it will still be strike A to the ears. But if a shit is bad, no matter how skillful the music playing is, no matter how expensive the recording was and no matter if hundreds of tracks were used for a song; the shit will still be in disgust with its remaining smell. That is why we leave it to our trustworthy reviewers to do the shit testing.

The Fat Dilemma

Among all the more important affairs published in Shock&Awe!#03 (that we had expected for a backfire), a review on a melodic punk rock split release was first to get some people pissed. They were so pissed because the reviewer Ci Chan had stereotyped both of the bands he reviewed to be sounding like Fat Wreck Chords bands, as he has no right to be doing so because he has not graduated in accomplishing his diploma in listening to Fat Wreck Bands. I frankly hate to agree with that bugger Ci Chan, but he does has a point and supposedly he should have elaborate much more.

I did grew listening to some of these Fat Wreck bands and I think i still do have NOFX's 'S&M Airlines' and Lagwagon's 'LTAF'(without the CD) somewhere in my boxes. And i do dig Zero Down as one of Fat bands to have brilliant lyrics.

It's pretty much a fact that Fat Mike & gang succeed to establish a signature sound and style. The fast drum beats, the harmonize guitars as well as the long melodic vocals. They distinguished their own style and as a matter a fact they influenced most of the bands coming out from that part of California and of course the rest of the world then. Even in the early compilation they did, there were different kind of bands but there was still that thick Fat sound that you can recognize the most. That did overshadow some bands that sounded different. Fat Mike himself may had notice this, so he brought on different kinda bands to be released. Its not a stereotype but that kind of establish the Californian Fat melodic identity. Be it from Japan, Spain or maybe Indonesia, there are a lot of bands that do carry that heavy Fat sound with them. That made the difference between Fat and other types of melodic punk bands. You can always make comparison between melodic punk bands which have American-Californian-Fat gist with melodic punk bands that are more into their own style.

I really-really hate to name drop bands but do try to compare the Fats with melodic punk bands such as the Fun People(Argentinia), Petrograd(Germany), Frontiera (Italy), Masshysteri (Sweden) or maybe Fucked Up(Canada) which has gone way beyond every cliché. All of them have their own strong melodic punk vibe without any Fat identity attached at all. Even bigger bands nowadays like Propagandhi(Canada), Randy(Sweden) or The Hives(Sweden) had their earlier albums starched up with a lot Fat but they did progress and turned their sound into something no one did expected.

Listening back to the split Carbon14/Tim split, there was really effort to break the Fatness mould and i do think both bands had played tight with much experimentations here and there. Going thru the whole, most parts of their songs still carries an improvised Fat signature. You can obviously sense that. And what i have in mind now is that Tim does sound like Dream Theatre doing the new Nofx. If you're into technical guitars & drumming this would 'wow!' you. Well, thats as far as how i could analyze my listening. I may be far left out behind light years, but is being associated with the Fat sound such a really bad thing?

unlike any other genre, it's easier to sum pop punk to be something recognizable: fat wreck. it's mean of me to say, I know. I can expect hatemails and petitions addressed to shock and awe hq (me) for this reality check. anyway this CD is a split between malaysian punk rock bands that has a terrifying album cover, which thankfully, is the only part that is not fat wreck at all. I wonder if adobe photoshop (or whatever software it is) had an effect on them as well, and that would probably explain why carbon 14 was rather laughable. I could spend another 6 pages ranting about the songs buh nahh. carbon 14 went into full throttle by playing tightly, adding vocals that make Fat Mike thin! TIM added edge to their musical approach and although the record was technically acceptable, it falls slightly shot of becoming another Fat Mike split CD.

Apis C14 : It's such an honor comparing us with Fat Wreck.

Pertama sekali, saya ingin mengucapkan kesyukuran kepada ilahi kerana dengan takdir-Nya telah menyebabkan kami berkecimpung dengan Punk Rock sekaligus memanjangkan usia Carbon 4' Teen (C14) dan tahun ini C14 telah menjangkau usia 10 tahun. wow!!!! =_=" eleh biasa je..

Last Minute Launch Party!

Hik hik.... (sound effect gambar di atas). Secara rasminya split EP Carbon 4' Teen & T.I.M akan dilancarkan pada 24hb Disember 2010. Pelancaran ini dibuat serentak bersama Soul Savior yang juga baru menghasilkan EP yang pertama mereka. Turut serta, Faded Face jaguh punk rock dari Terengganu semenjak 90-an. Dum Dum Tak, band yang tak perlu aku huraikan lagi kerana kitaorang menumpang populariti mereka untuk mempromosikan split EP ini. Akhir sekali, Tetamu kehormat kita ialah Jim Straub, editor Ride On Zine dari U.S.A! They have released nine full-length studio albums and two live albums and have toured extensively, including performances on the Vans Warped Tour. They are infamous for their outrageous lyrics and behavior which are deliberately explicit, offensive and intended to shock, though usually in a humorous and sarcastic manner. Controversial American punk band Guttermouth has confirmed its upcoming performance in front of punk fans in the capital city of a Muslim country, Malaysia.

The live performance this Nov. 6, 2010, scheduled to take place inside One Cafe Bistro on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, will also feature local bands like Kids On The Move, Skatanixs, Carbon 4’ Teen, Gasoline Grenade, Half Asleep, Thy Regiment and Stick No Bill, with the concert starting as early as 3 p.m.

Consisting of Mark Adkins on vocal, Clint “Cliff” Weinrich and Justin Van Westbrook on bass, Kevin Clark, Dave Luckett and Brandon Zinkil on guitar and Ryan Farrell on drums, the band made itself known after being kicked out of the 2004 Warped Tour by consistently insulting other tour participants like My Chemical Romance and Yellowcard.

With a long history spanning from 1988, the band has so far released nine full-length studio albums and two live albums that have what are considered outrageous, shocking and offensive lyrics, often sang in a sarcastic manner.

The song Bullshit, for example, repeats the sentence “Bullshit, bullshit, full of shit” throughout the start, while Lucky the Donkey tells the story of a mother who had sex with a donkey in Mexico for 50,000 pesos.

Following the release of the band’s 2006 studio-length album entitled Shave the Planet, the band announced several lineup changes and its return to Hopeless Record Label in 1999 from Volcom to work on its 10th studio album.

Being a notorious band for its on and off stage behavior, Guttermouth was banned from performing in Canada for 18 months in 1998 after its vocalist, Adkins, was arrested for indecent behavior after stripping naked on stage in front of a live audience at Saskatoon. Both Eminem and Blacklisted have also been banned from performing Canada at one time or another.

But the band continues to have loyal fans, with Musical Monkey (1997) being one of the most popular albums for being darkly creative and hilarious.

With styles nobody dares to imitate and more than enough sense of humor to poke fun at anything and everything, Guttermouth stands on a pedestal with other giants in the industry like NOFX, The Misfits, Antiflag, Rancid and The Vandals — although it takes a certain degree of immaturity to actually get them.

They remain a favorite band at the Punknews.org, though, dubbing them as annoyingly cartoonish and half-assed.

In addition, nobody can deny that they have the punkest attitude out there, constantly disregarding the norm without paying much attention to public reaction.

For our soon-to-be-annoyed punk-loving friends in KL, tickets for the concert are available at the door of the venue for 55 ringgit (US$18) – that’s if the country doesn’t decide to ban Guttermouth at the last minute for reasons like corrupting Muslim youth or the like.

Di sini siapa yang tak kenal dengan Guttermouth? Ya! Mereka adalah infamous punk rock band yang bermulut celupar dan akan menyakiti hati aku, korang dan mungkin kawan-kawan korang. Sesuai dengan nama band mereka, hasil mulut celupar Guttermouth ini juga telah menyusahkan band mereka sendiri dan orang lain yang akan bekerjasama dengan mereka. Lirik-lirik seperti Big Pink Dress (1997), Do the hustle (1997), My Girlfriend (2000) dan lain-lain telah menyebabkan kontroversi dan buah cerita dikalangan peminat dan pembenci mereka. Dibawah ni saya sertakan beberapa komen terhadap Guttermouth yang saya kumpulkan melalui kawan-kawan dan hasil carian melalui internet.

Punk Rock itu indah?

Wow.. aku tak sangka hari ini aku memilih untuk bicara tentang benda yang sangat tipikal iaitu pasal asas Punk Rock! (lagi...). Ok la kot.. betul la tu! aku ni masih Apis C14. Takkan la aku nak cerita pasal cara-cara memasukkan enjin 4G93 ke motosikal jenis honda ex-5? hahahahaa... sejak bila aku main motor ni?

Aku membuat artikel ini untuk "kita?" saling ingat-mengingati dan untuk mengelakkan kita daripada sifat berkelompok dalam Punk Rock scene. Ok apabila kita cakap pasal Punk Rock band, mengikut pada pandangan aku, aku telah definasikan ia kepada 3 iaitu :

1. As a punker.

2. As a musician.

3. Kedua-duanya sekali.

1. As a punker

Punk Rock band dalam kategori ini membuat band hanyalah untuk menyampaikan mesej. Tiada mazhab guitar hero dan drummer power seperti Steve Vai, Pettruci, Jimi hendrix, Jimmy Page, Slash, Akira Jimbo, Mike Angelo, Travis Barker, dan lain-lain. Mereka hanya ada diri mereka sendiri. Mesej tersebut disampaikan adalah sama ada ingin memberi atau membangkang idea seseorang individu dan sesuatu kelompok yang mengisarkan tentang Politik, Ekonomi, Sosial, Teknologi dan sebagainya. Mesej yang disampaikan agak lantang dan jujur. Mereka mempunyai tarikan tersendiri mengikut kekuatan mesej yang diberikan. Minta maaf saya tidak meletakkan contoh nama band untuk mengelakkan daripada tersalah label. Kalau korang faham, korang pun boleh teka sendiri band apa kOwWt.. haha.. napew aQ tYpe cam niEw aRe?

2. As a musician

Punk Rock band dalam kategori ini membuat band adalah ingin mengadaptasikan ilmu dan bakat muzik mereka menggunakan saluran Punk Rock. Ya mereka hebat dari pelbagai segi dalam muzik. Drum padu, progressive, padat, Guitar Hero, etc.. Tapi dari segi vokalnya yang lunak tiada mesej yang hendak diberikan atau untuk difikirkan. Good band!!

3. Kedua-duanya sekali

Punk Rock band kategori ini adalah gabungan kedua-dua diatas yang aku sebut tadi. Akan tetapi aku tak cakap ini adalah kategori Punk Rock band yang terbaik dan tidak memilih mana-mana diatas adalah kategori yang paling baik untuk sesebuah Punk Rock band sebab Punk Rock muzik memang subjektif! Yang aku nak cerita ialah bagaimana pandangan kita terhadap muzik Punk Rock.

Situasi 1 : Pandang rendah kepada band kurang kemahiran muzik

Dude, Punk Rock band kategori nombor 1 tu memang nak main macam tu. Diorang tak terer main muzik seperti kau dan mungkin belum hebat macam kau. So biar lah mereka.. aku kurang berminat dengar bisikan punkers yang konon mahadewa power giler babissss dalam muzik Punk Rock mengkritik band yang kategori nombor satu atau mana-mana band yang tak sehebat seperti dirinya. "Eleh... main macam ni barai pun orang suka ke?". Eh dude! Lu gua lu gua lu pehal? Biar lah dia main macam tu, at least dari segi lirikal dan mesej, mereka sangat berguna untuk Punk Rock scene! So jangan memekak kenapa mereka tak hebat seperti kau atau belum hebat seperti kau. Ini punk rock!

Terkecuali bagi band yang main barai diikuti oleh taknak memperbaiki diri dan mesej pun takde (mesej takde? Macam mana tu? takde lirik ke?). Aku rasa Punk Rock band jenis ini memang saja nak pegang alat muzik kot. Tak salah juga, janji mereka happy. hehe..

Situasi 2 : Pandang rendah kepada band yang tidak lantang

Ini tak punk rock..... Mungkin ini tanggapan segelintir peminat punk rock dalam kategori nombor 1 terhadap mereka yang berada dalam kategori 2. mereka yang bermain muzik punk rock dan tidak agresif seperti yang kau harapkan. Aku rasa tiada masalah dan tak penting. Biar lah mereka nak buat apa sahaja pun. Asalkan mereka tak membawa idea kearah racism, fascism dan sexism cukuplah.

OK ini sahaja dari aku. Yang penting kita jangan gaduh-gaduh, DIY/Indie scene di Malaysia ni bukan lah besar sangat, kalau sesama Punk Rock scene pun bertikaian.. tenat jadinya! peace! Punk Rock Loves You Too!

Kempen Kongsi Kereta Gagal!

Adakah korang pernah tertanya kenapa Kempen Kongsi Kereta yang dicanang-canangkan telah gagal bagi memenuhi objektif mengurangkan kesesakan jalanraya yang berlaku di Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur dan sebahagian pusat-pusat tumpuan di Selangor? Berikut adalah hasil kaji selidik oleh aku sendiri terhadap diri aku. Hehe.. peace!

1. Jiran Syif Malam

Kalau dah jiran aku kerja syif malam camner aku nak ajak kongsi kereta dengan mereka ni? takkan lah aku nak masuk kerja pukul 8pm plak kan? itu mustahil!

2. Lain destinasi

Bagi kes ini.. aku takde masa nak kongsi kereta dengan jiran yang lain arah. contohnya, Shah Alam-Gombak-Damansara. Baik-baik sampai ofis 8.30 pagi, terus je jadi 10.30 pagi! Cukup sebulan, kena buang kerja, padan muka! Tadi tu contoh yang tak kurang ajar sangat. Tapi kalau dia kerja kat Seremban plak camner? Eden torai..

3. Student!

Ni apa kes aku nak kongsi kereta dengan student UiTM Shah Alam ni? Diorang boleh pergi kelas dengan 10 minit perjalanan jer. Gedik plak nak naik kereta aku.. Baik aku tukar kerjaya jadi pemandu teksi.

4. Jiran anak dara baik punya..

Wah-wah! best lah ko dapat gadis cun tak pasal-pasal. Bagi yang belum berumahtangga boleh la, bagi aku ni camner? Kalau orang lain cakap aku kahwin dua boleh la aku tersengih-sengih siput.. tapi kalau isteri aku kasi batu lesung kat kepala.. agak-agak sakit tak?

5. Gaduh dengan jiran

Aku pun tak tahu apa lah masalah jiran aku tu. Aku bukan main gitar kuat-kuat pun. Master Volume* sama dengan 3 je. Ko tu buka lagu dangdut kuat-kuat dah macam Pusat Karoke dan Kelab Malam boleh plak.. harap-harap lah ko baca Komik Rottworld. Aku memang dah lama nak tempeleng muka ko tu. Eh cam dah lari topik jer.. hehe..

6. Jiran pakai kereta mewah

Aku pakai kereta ciput je, dia pakai kereta Lamborghini Diablo SV. Giler kencang! Separuh mati dia nak beli kereta tu takkan lah dia nak tumpangkan orang suka-suka jer kan? naik kereta aku? Memang tak lah kan! Dia pun kena pikir masa depan terhadap awex-awex dia yang akan lari ke pinggang orang lain. Jatuh saham beb!

7. Jiran kaki pukul

Kalau jiran ko tu kaki pukul drum, boleh la ajak jamming sama-sama. Ni kaki pukul orang beb.. memang silap la kereta depan ko yang memandu lembab tahap cipan. Aku rasa, dia karate je tengkok orang tu. Patutnya destinasi ke tempat kerja bertukar menjadi ke balai polis. Dengan ko sekali kena gari. hahahaha..

Kesimpulannya, Kempen Kongsi Kereta sememangnya gagal mengambil tempat dihati pengguna-pengguna jalanraya dewasa ini. Kitaorang pun bukan suka nak duduk lama-lama dalam kereta sambil baca stiker yang dipampangkan oleh pemandu kereta hadapan. So pihak berkenaan takyah lah membazir duit mempromosikan kempen ini lagi. Alasan-alasan di atas memang dah terjawab tapi kami sebagai rakyat menyokong jika ada cadangan yang bernas untuk mengatasi masalah kesesakan lalu lintas ini. Chow & Peace! Wassalam!

Tobek : almost similar as you form your band...

3. By individually what's your favorite local and international band?

Tobek : my current playlist will be Sista Sekunden & Good Luck (for international). Some new local bands which is great such as Corporate Youth & Never Found (will be released soon!-check it out).

Shah : To list my favourite bands would be ridiculous because there are so many great bands in this world that i love. However, I’ve been listening to a lot of Sista Sekunden from Sweden (new album, “Aging With Style” is fucking brilliant) and Classics of Love (Jesse Operation Ivy’s latest work) lately but some of my all-time favourite international bands would be Bad Religion, Operation Ivy, Leftöver Crack/Choking Victim, Propagandhi and Satanic Surfers. As for the local bands, i enjoy bands like Freygyle, Osmantikos, Toxictoy and Kah Roe Shi (just to name a few).

4. Do you guys believe in any political parties in Malaysia? Why? If next general election, Malaysia rules by Alternative Front? Do you guys happy?

Tobek : I'm thinking of migrating to other countries when thinking of our political party's dramas..hahh. I think none of it sincere to take the responsibility on ruling a country or making Malaysia a better place and safe from all this multi-racial hatred and prejudice or all those malay's rules & regulations crap! Furthermore, most of the leaders now are prioritizing their personal matters/financial rather than thinking of something better for us..the citizens. so, what do you expect? Anyway, when you wanna talk about party, it's bullshit to me. But i rather go for individual. I might wanna participate in the next election..for the first time..haha! If Malaysia rules by Alternative Front, it might be better, who knows (although seeing certain Alternative Front Leaders suspicious, more often tend to personal interests.)

Will i ever vote in the years to come? i don’t know, but if am going to, i think it’s definitely NOT going to be the National Coalition (BN) because i have seen too much of their bullshit after all these years. If the opposition wins, I really hope they will change everything that needs to be changed all these while.

5. In context of DIY Punk Hardcore, what do you think about Punk Rock Fest, Ska Fest, Thrash Fest or what ever music fest based on genre. Do they one of factor cause our DIY Punk/HC scene getting smaller? Why?

Tobek : The scene getting smaller? I don't understand this question... Do you referring to shows organized by genre? I do think that this is NOT the cause or reason our DIY HCpunk scene smaller than the 'independent scene' at Malaysia or vice versa (macamla independent scene besar sgt...). The 1st reason might be because we don't want to be big. It's that simple. Anyway shows which differentiate genre of music is not healthy and really inappropriate for a small-scale scene such as Malaysia. The more you intent to differentiate others and their musics, the more you lose contacts, crowds and networking you should built among scenesters. The 1st thing you should know about DIY HC punk scene is that these kids are fighting with their musics on social/political change, human rights for a better world. The 2nd thing is that we will play whatever we want! That's the good thing in this scene (for me) because i never put border in my songwriting/musics <'Labels are for cans' - quote by Inspection12>. The word 'Fest' also has been misused, same goes for 'tribute'! I really don't understand why kids tend to put Fest although shows organized in a small space venue and just a one day event.. Is this some kind of a stupid marketing method from organizers? Dunno.. but we really thinking of doing a REAL Fest for DIY HCpunk somewhere next year, maybe?? (we want to beat the hell out of Rock the World!!)

Shah : I’m really not a fan of one-type genre shows because i like and listen to different sub-genres of punk too - like crust, powerviolence, grind etc. I think i’ll be puking if i were to watch 10 different melodic punk bands playing the same show. The thing is that, there are some people who still draw borders when it comes to musical styles or preferences. To me if the music and lyrics are good, then it’s good. This makes certain shows are exclusive to certain group of people, which i think is NOT good. Take it like this: CRASS might not sound like conventional punk bands but everybody knows they are punk as fuck and their message/ideas are brilliant. Always Last have played shows with many different bands from the mellow ones up to the harder bands like Pisschrist and we toured with Overdose (from China) which i think sounds nothing like us but they are very nice people. I personally like it that way. I hope that answers your question.

6 a. If society sucks! why some of us create a Punk/HC scene based on place of origin/interest? Example, Community this & that, Hardcore cawangan Parit Malapetaka, Siti Zabedah also likes Pogo and Mosh Crew, What The Fuck Group, anti-your department and etc.

Tobek : Hahaha... ade ke Siti Zabedah Mosh Crew?? Batu Pahat ni (jalan kat umah Mawi-ex F&Stoned). I think this is just from the HC kids and some Grunge kids at certain areas...and also some ska punk bands from Sg. Petani (hahahahaha). Nothing important, just a matter of showing where they come from, or maybe following overseas bands that they like. But stop being so macho with that initials you named for your selves (mostly HC kids), looks like stupid groupies and more to gangsterisms. Just be yourself!

Shah : Siti Zabedah Pogo and Mosh crew? Hahaha, never heard of that one yet. The name sounds awful. I guess they want people to know where they come from, but i personally don’t really care about it that much. It’s all just names. Always Last is not part of that because we come from different places, Tobek is originally from Teregganu, Min is from KL, Bulat is from Pahang and I am from Selangor. I think it’s a different case with collectives such as Food Not Bombs and Coathangers Revolt because their main aim differ from one another. For instance, FNB does not only consists of punks only and they do free-food serving for people. On the other hand, Coathangers Revolt’s main aim is to combat sexism and also educate people.

6b. Are these kind of groups cause a croniyism too?

Tobek : Cronyisms?? Is it? Dunno..not important to me

Shah : Somehow it will i guess because some people like to feel belong to certain groups and comfortable that way. So they tend to not mix around with other people and this leads to the division of the punk scene. For example: the crusties might say that kids who enjoy listening to melodic punk as trendies and while they on the other hand call these crusties as PC or things like that or vice-versa. I heard that is what people are talking about Nervhous and the tour - if it involves Nervhous Recods, it’s gonna be pop-punk/melodic punk and their circle of friends - that’s bullshit. To clear things up, Always Last is NOT a 100% Nervhous band because Pissart Records and Embrace Records released our recordings too. Struck A Nerve tour is actually a tour of bands who are friends with each other and the idea is to go out to different places together and make friends with other people in the place the bands are going to. Who knows maybe Pissart or Embrace do a tour in the future and we might want to hop in too.

6c. Do you have any idea to solve cronyism problem?

Tobek : Cronyism might start when you create a status quo in your population of people (circle of friends/organization/society). It might be related with racisms, different class of people, prioritize bloodlines... How to solve? In an any organizations, evaluation of people performances is very important (Key Performance Index/Key Results Areas - tools can be used to evaluate person effectively). But it is more likely people judge another person based on their appearances or whoever good to bosses would get more etc. This is individual matters.. i can't say more.

Shah : Mix with everyone, don’t hang out with only your friends. Get to know more people, and be nice to everyone?

7. "I'm punk and yes to racism", why we opposed this kind of people.

Tobek : We should opposed all kinds of racisms not from punkers only rite? Why? Because it is not valid for one person to live in this world hating/discriminating others who are not same colors of skin with them. It is super-duper stupid, ignorance state-of-mind that will make not just our country but the whole world in war! So why need more war??

Shah : That’s not punk! That’s plain stupid because punk is totally the opposite of that. We should oppose everyone who practice or believe in it, not only punks. It is not only a punk thing, it’s basic common sense. The color of your skin does not justify who you are. It doesn’t matter if you’re a malay, or chinese or indian or white, if you’re an asshole - you’re still an asshole, doesn’t mean that you’re gonna get away with it. The world is bearing too much hatred now and this needs to stop. The only race in this world is human race and we are all brothers & sisters. Some people might use the excuse of “religion” to hate/discriminate other people who are not the same as them and that’s stupid too because “other people” are your God’s creations too, so why hate? Hate or blame your own god lah for creating them (and you will automatically win a free ticket to hell). People were not given any choices of what they want to become when they were born anyways. Everyone should be equal and there is no such as thing as “the master race” because it doesn’t make sense. However, in the punk scene - i am pretty sure that there are some people who i call as “ closet-racist/sexist/homophobic/fascist”. When they talk/sing on stage, they sounded very convincing that they are opposing the ideas mentioned above but when they are only with their friends, they talk or act totally the opposite. Fucking hypocrites, they pretend to be anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobia, anti-fascist just to feel belong or just for the punk scene’s “acceptance”, and i think that’s even more stupid.

8. If you notice your friend being racist, what do you do?

Tobek : Advice..advice more..revolt!..take action!

Shah : Talk to them, explain to them, advice and if things don’t change, goodbye!

9. "Punk/HC is about Trust, Loyalty and Brotherhood", could you guys comment more about this statement.

Tobek : erm...no i don't think so. This words looks like more to skinheads and tiga line!

Shah : That sounds more like an UMNO slogan. Hahahaha. In the DIY hardcore/punk context, that is how things work especially trust. For example: people run DIY record labels and releases other bands’ (local or overseas) stuff based on mutual trust and understanding, not based on some bullshit black and white contracts, they communicate and learn from one another. That’s how punks are connected and networked with each other. Bands from overseas come down and the local kids help them out with lodging and touring here - things like that.

10. Any promotion or last words? say more things here. bye-bye and thank you Always Last!

1. Rambut berfesyen!

Untuk jadi rockstar ko kena bergaya dan mencipta satu identiti Rock Star! Salah satu identiti yang bergaya paling mudah dan tidak perlukan belanja wang ringgit yang tinggi ialah dandanan rambut. Sejajar dengan petua dari orang tua, mahkota lelaki terletak pada rambutnya. So kepada yang nak jadi Punk Rock Star korang cuma perlu buat rambut mohawk. Kalau dapat kaler-kaler lagu bagus! Hijau, Kuning, Merah, Biru, Indigo dan lain-lain. Kalau balik kampung senang sikit mak ayah ko buat penyapu lantai. Time tu ko mesti cakap "syurga dibawah tapak kaki ibu" sebab ibu ko dah hadiahkan tapak kaki kat muka ko. Padan muka! hahahahahaa...

2. Punk Rock kedai runcit

Walaupun orang cakap Punk Rock adalah dari dalam diri kita tapi apa salahnya kalau kau nak tunjukkan Punk Rock itu melalui pakaian dan fesyen. Pakai boots, Jaket Kulit, Seluar Kulit Ketat atau jeans lusuh, gelang spike dan lain-lain aksesori. Cari lah baju Punk Rock band seperti Green Day, Blink 182, The Used, MCR.. MCR? Owh yer.. Sila jangan tipikal sangat. Nanti orang panggil kamu Punk Rock kedai runcit plak. Pilih la baju Punk Rock band yang rare punya dan pastikan original seperti NOFX, RUFIO, MxPx, No Use For A Name, Misfits, Strung Out dan lain-lain. Kalau nak yang local POH, FsF, Carburator Dung, The Bollock, Always Last, band aku ke hehe perasan... dan kalau aku taip semua nama band local kat sini boleh jadi 45 muka surat tidak termasuk kulit buku. harap maklum.. hahaha..

3. Punk Rock Band

Nak jadi Punk Rock Star mestilah kena ada Punk Rock Band. Takkan lah band dangdut plak! Seterusnya nak buat band mestilah kena pandai main alat muzik. Kalau anda hanya mampu mengumpul tiga pemain kompang, ia tidak dianggap Punk Rock Band yer. Walaupun perkataan "kompang" ada bunyi perkataan "punk", sorry banyak-banyak anda tak layak! Pergi lah berdaftar dengan Ahli Jawatankuasa Kampung dan Tempatan di tempat kediaman korang. Mana lah tahu dapat mewakili persatuan kompang untuk majlis perkahwinan dan berkhatan ke.. Ok lah.. dapat makan free.

4. ROTTW Soundstage

Abang kalau dah ada band kita nak buat ape? jamming sampai lebam ke? Betul tu! jamming sampai terer pastu release lah lagu sendiri dan cari gig. Band baru memang susah nak cari gig. Sebab tu ada band pergi ke pay to play gig. Tak salah bro tapi kalau pay to play tu tolong marketkan band ko segiler-giler yang mungkin baguslah. Jangan sampai ko datang pay to play gig, dalam tu ada 3 orang je iaitu penjaga equipment, organiser dan girlfriend dia. Band lain dah balik sebab dah abis main. Lepas ko main, ko pun balik.. camner tu? Organiser tadi dah pi tengok wayang dengan GF dia. Hahahahaha.. pergi ROTTW Soundstage la bro! Pilihan yang tepat, setahun sekali je bro! Dijamin berbaloi!

5. D.I.Y or Die!

Kau masuk rancangan realiti TV je la senang. Keluar jer terus glamor! Cuma kena pandai berlakon nangis-nangis je time kawan ko tersingkir, bukan lama pun 5 minit jer sementara tunggu lagu sedih habis pastu boleh ketawa semula. Dalam rancangan tu ko cover jer lagu orang, kalau sedap tu kira ko best jugak lah. Kalau suara ko macam kucing siam pun jangan risau sebab orang kampung ko tetap sokong ko punya lah. Bila dah graduate lupa pulak nak cipta lagu. Nak tunggu komposer ciptakan untuk ko, ko plak tak pandai nyanyi. Apa susah, masuk jer rancangan Melodi TV3.. Ye la ko kan dah terer menangis tiap-tiap minggu. Kali ini ko nangis cakap orang itu dan ini tak tolong ko keluarkan album dan tak promotekan untuk korang. Last-last tolong mak ayah kat kampung jer senang. Cancel lah petua ini... tak best! Moralnya DIY/Independent tetap pilihan hati ku!

6. U guys so sweet

Peh... meleleh darah keluar dari telinga kalau gadis-gadis jelita cakap kat band ko macam tu. Bukan pasal muka ko jambu lah, ini sebab ko main power! Nak lelaki muka jambu, cari kat uptown pun berlambak. Bila ko perform tu buat lah aksi-aksi menarik yang boleh orang lain anugerahkan ko sebagai Rock Star! Maksud aku bukan lah nak suruh ko buat pertunjukan sarkis telan api atau pisau. Cukup lah dengan gaya persembahan band yang tight dan memukau! Ok line-up standby yer... 1,2,3 go! alamak bass lupa tune! Takper lah nanti birthday awak, saya hadiahkan digital tuner tau! bikin kantoi plak...

7. Rockstar berjiwa rakyat

Macam Wakil Rakyat lah plak. Ini cerita benar.. musician pun kena berhati mulia. Jangan jadi orang yang belum sempat glamor dah buat muka tapir seminggu tak makan semut. Bertegur sapa lah sikit sambil tu promote band sendiri dengan membawa lagu sendiri dalam walkman, mana lah tahu ko tak sengaja berborak dengan organiser power kan itu menguntungkan. Jangan pandang semua orang kecik walaupun dia memang kecik entah-entah dia agent Metallica ke anak sedara Steve Vai ke? saper tahu..

8. Rockstar rilex-rilex kacang!

Rilex-rilex kacang sudah lah bro. Please jangan lah jalan-jalan kat shopping mall bawa gitar ke hulu hilir untuk menunjuk macam ko sorang jer ada band. Kalau betul baru balik gig dan menggunakan public transport tu takpe lah. Ini hari sabtu pukul 3 petang sampai 11 malam bawa gitar letrik dalam softcase (jenama tak tahu! harap-haraplah gibson les paul original) dan lepas puas bergambar untuk tontonan myspace dan facebook, ko pun balik rumah. Pada hal hari sabtu lah rockstar takde kat shopping mall sebab dia ada gig! Rockstar yang dianugerahi tak macam tu. Dia simpan gitar dalam hardcase dan simpan terus kat dalam bonet kereta atau simpan kat rumah terus. Baru cool!

Kesimpulannya, nak jadi Rockstar yang best bukan mudah tapi kalau nak jadi rockstar sampah memang senang dan nak dapat tapak kaki pun senang! hahahaaha.. Ok, aku mengakhiri topik ini dengan lagu Aku Bukan Rockstar dari The Liberals! Chow bro!

1. When you see a band's name, what can you understand about it … and how does that explain yours?

"More catchy your band's name, more value will you get". Basically, a band's name is a brand. It does not signify how good or poor your band is with the name that you chose. When it comes to branding, as a brand owner we have to bring a good reputation to our brand. Like the NOFX band for example, the name sounds simple and sometimes funny when said out. I do not know if there is a story behind the name ,NOFX, but for me they are a good band! Is not because of their band's name but their songs are good and that gives good reputation to their band's name.

As the same for us, I chose this name with no good or relevant meaning to describe us. LOL! I took this name from science text book and Carbon 4' Teen is actually a radioactive isotope of carbon but we are not science teachers so.... Yet, the most important thing is that we try our best to make this name gain more value until the point where when people talk about Malaysia's punk rock band, they will talk about us. Yes that is our dream.

2. If the band had to reach out to a singular source for inspiration, who would it be? And why?

Redza, our guitarist and songwriter is our source for inspiration. He knows a lot and is very well versed when it comes to punk rock music, so we trust him; but who cares?

3. Is there an element of glamour surrounding the songwriter of the band …and does that allow him to dictate the band somewhat? And who is that guy in this band?

LOL! I would vote myself as the most glamor guy in this band. Even if yes, I can not simply exert my influence on my band mate to do this and that. If the majority disagrees then the answer would be "No!"; otherwise please go solo.

4. In your opinion, how has songwriting evolved over the past two decades? Are we making good progress? And what is your band's contribution to this?

Yes we're definitely making a good progress and it's getting better even though we're slower compare to other countries. I just want to point out that there are some potential musician/bands that are still hiding behind the mentality of Do-It-Your attitude or "katak bawah tempurung". Surely, they only think of how to "sell-in" and not to go "sell-out". But for me, it does not matter as long as you know what to do. There is no right and wrong here. At the end you will realize that it depends on you because your path is your truest path.

5. How was the band formed and what was the most important ingredient in getting you guys to share this dream together?

In an independent scene, we started this band with the objective to voice our ideology about human rights. We strongly oppose racism, fascism, sexism and that was the very reason we chose hardcore/punk genre for the band.

Back in the days when Malaysia's independent music scene was attacked by black metal issue. Mainstream media was labeling bands that wore black shirts, played heavy music and gigging with black metal activities. That really affected us. But now, Malaysia's music industry is steadily accepting independent music (so called Indie) and suddenly everyone wants to be "indie". Whatever it is, it is a good time and good chance to make a move.

Yes, our music style changed and maybe we follow the market trend by playing Pop/Punk Rock genre but that is the strategy to attract more listeners for our music and to make this band go further but we are still same and we still strongly opposed what we declared before this. It does not mean that if we play softer music we can't voice our ideologies.

"Jangan hanya melepaskan batuk di tangga." Being a good musician means that there is a need to know your limits, being a good listener and respecting one and another are our main ingredients in making our dreams come true. Punk Rock loves you too!
